ADMINISTRATION
William "Bill" Foss came to Elan School in 1995. He is currently the Principal/Headmaster and Evening Administrator. He received his B.S. Degree from Gorham State College and his Masters Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Maine. Bill has spent nearly thirty five years in education and served as a Superintendent of Schools for twelve. He also teaches History at Elan and assists with Girls Cross Country.
Notes From The Headmaster's Corner
Andrea (Ande) Lane joined our Education Department in 2009 as the Special Education Director. She completed her Bachelors in Special Education at the University of Maine at Farmington with a major in Emotional Disabilities. She has also worked as a special education teacher, a behavioral consultant and as an elementary school principal. Ande is certified as a Wilson Reading Instructor, and has worked extensively with students who have severe learning disabilities and/or challenging behaviors. In December of 2007, she received her Masters in Education Leadership. Ande‘s dedication to Special Education comes with a strong focus on the maximum support of IEP development and implementation.
FACULTY
Sandra Colburn graduated from the University of Maine in Orono with BS and Masters degree in Science Education. She has completed additional graduate studies in science, guidance and special education. Sandra retired from a local public high school after teaching Biology and Chemistry for 39 years. She joined Élan in August, 2000 and enjoys the opportunity to help students as they develop their study habits, skills, and knowledge of Biology, Physical Science and Chemistry.
Craig Treadwell joined the faculty at Elan during the summer of 2000. He teaches computer classes, runs the computer lab, maintains the technology and equipment and serves as a substitute teacher. He introduced the use of the internet as a teaching and research tool. He has worked with teenage youth groups for over 40 years and has developed a strong understanding of the dynamics of working with youth. Mr. Treadwell enjoys working with the students of Elan and looks forward to many more years. He is a graduate of Boise State University, with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and a minor in family counseling.
Josiah Adams graduated from Marlboro College in 1967. Before coming to Elan in 2000, he taught at Collegio St. John's, Honduras for many years, where he was also active in the CODEFOR program and in International Graduate Placements. At Elan, Mr. Adams teaches Honors Chemistry, Physics and Introductory Astronomy. From time to time he teaches a course in Critical Thinking and a course in Music History. He is also active as a tutor and in the college selection and placement of his students.
Skip Crosby has taught Spanish in the classroom for 21 years. Skip lived, studied and worked in Colombia, South America for two years. He has taught at Winslow High School, Cape Elizabeth High School and is currently teaching at Poland Regional High School. He has led various school groups to Spain and Costa Rico. He has a degree in Political Science and a minor in Economics from Gordon College. He earned a certificate of completion in the two year Spanish program for foreigners at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Columbia. He also has his Education degree from the University of Maine at Farmington. In 1998, Skip earned a Masters Degree in Spanish Language from Middlebury College.
Sarah Poulin began working at Elan as a private Wilson Reading tutor in April of 2004. In the summer of 2005, she was hired as a tutor/teacher to work with students who need modified educational classes. Sarah graduated from the University of Maine in 1970 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Sarah is currently a certified Wilson Instructor and is State Certified in K-8 General Education and 7 -12 Language Arts. She truly enjoys her work with the Elan School staff and students. She is currently transitioning to special education.
Paul Clement graduated from Boston College and majored in History and Russian studies. He then received an M.A. in Sociology from UCLA and pursued doctoral studies until moving to Maine where he was employed as an Economic Researcher and copywriter. After a 5 year stint as Town Manager, he then was employed as a School Business Manager and Social Studies teacher at a local high school. Later, he also began a career as adjunct faculty at both Unity College and Husson University. Paul has been an Elan Summer School teacher for over 30 years and the last 16 years at Elan as an English and Humanities instructor.
Jeffrey Morris joined Elan as a full-time faculty member in August, 2010. He has taught the SAT Prep Course at Elan for over 5 years and has substituted here when needed. Jeff has a BA in Math and a MA in Education from the University of Maine. He has taught at the local high school level for over 15 years. Jeff wrote an Algebra I textbook that he uses in his classes. He has served on multiple committees while working on accreditation for three different schools. He has coached a variety of sports and helped coach a math team to multiple state championships.
