Elan School has a certified physical education instructor. In season, Elan School has an active schedule of intramural sports allows Elan students to enjoy friendly competition. Each house has softball, basketball and soccer teams that compete against each other throughout the summer. An all-star game completes the season.
Special trips are organized weekly during the summer for sailing and deep-sea fishing trips and hiking on Maine's Calendar Islands. Additional trips are scheduled for other recreational opportunities, including bowling, canoeing, hiking, ice skating, downhill and cross-country skiing, snow tubing, whale watching, swimming, and white-water rafting. |
If you have ever wondered how Elan Student athletes behave when they are on road trips, Joyce Gordon has the answer. She wrote a letter to the school and below is an excerpt from that letter:
"I am the Sr. Shiftleader at Sam's Italian Foods...in Auburn, Maine. Sunday, Oct 30, 2005, we had a track team of about a dozen young men from your school in for a late lunch. I find that I must comment on these young people. I have worked at Sam's for eleven years and never have I come across a more polite and well behaved group. They showed nothing but respect and courtesy the entire time they were in the shop. In this day and age, unfortunately this is not the norm, how refreshing to see good, old fashion manners."
