What They Say About Our Athletes

"Many of the people of North Haven said your team was the most polite and best behaved they have had visit. They commented on how unified and well mannered they were over dinner.  And during the game I can tell you that                       the sportsmanship was great.  I didn't hear one of your players complain about a call even once. You would never know the kids ever had any problems. Which is a testimony to what you do."

"My son's basketball team recently played Elan at the Baxter School facility. (I was first to arrive in the gym -you introduced yourself thinking I was PTA's couch). I had never heard of Elan and because of the unusual setting/environment of the game I decided to research the school. I was impressed with Elan's team during the game - but even more so now. They gave Pine Tree a thorough drubbing - but in a hard, clean sportsmanlike fashion. I have had some, but limited work experience with children/young adults similiar to Elan's student body. Enough to know that the challenges for staff can be substantial. Your boys carried themselves in a focused, disciplined manner. There wasn't any inappropriate outburst of emotion, excessive physical contact or any such behaviors. You are doing these a kids a great service and community at large owes you a thank you. I am sure many children receive the right intervention and interaction skills/strategies that put them on a track to success rather than a life of abuse/incarceration. Tell your team they did themselves proud and to keep up the hard work. "

"Thanks for brining your group again this year.  It's nice to have them participate ...and they certainly lay down some excellent finishing times.  Thanks again and I look forward to seeing you next year."

"Elan, as always, is the class of MAISAD!... They set the hight level of sportsmanship and excellence for the rest of us  to follow."

"I am the Sr. Shiftleader at Sam's Italian Foods...in Auburn, Maine.  Sunday, Oct 30, 2005, we had a track team of about a dozen young men from your school in for a late lunch.  I find that I must comment on these young people. I have worked at Sam's for eleven years and never have I come across a more polite and well behaved group. They showed nothing but respect and courtesy the entire time they were in the shop.  In this day and age, unfortunately this is not the norm, how refreshing to see good, old fashion manners."

Letter to Frank McDermott, November 4, 2004

"On Saturday, Octoer 30, I went to Papa Gino's in Auburn for dinner.  When we arrived, the restaurant was filled with your Cross Country team.  We were apprehensive about staying because of the number of teenagers; we knew what we might encounter.  I am pleased to let you know that your students were very well behaved and polite.  They were very respectful of  the people in the restaurant.  I would like to congratulate your athletes and coaches on their victory and their behavior. you can be proud of how this group represented your school."
