Principal McDermott Retires

 

The Retirement Ceremony 

 

Elan held a ceremony in honor of Mr. McDermott who retired on August 9th after serving as Elan's principal and director of education  for 13 years. Frank has a total of 34 years in education.   In attendance were many of the staff, students and faculty, including a surprise visit from State Senator Bill Diamond. The ceremony highlighted many of Mr. McDermott’s accomplishments, a card was presented to Mr. McDermott by one of Elan's students and a tree was planted in his honor.

 

Frank McDermott had an illustrious and extensive career. He started teaching at Falmouth elementary school.  He became principal at Raymond middle school and was superintending principal there.  He was responsible for expanding that program and built the Jordan Small Gymnasium.  He starting teaching at Falmouth elementary school prior to becoming principal at Raymond  He served as assistant superintendent and then superintendent of SAD 6, before becoming principal at Elan.  

 

At Elan, he was responsible for expanding the technology including a state of the art computer lab.  “I tried to bring a first class secondary education to the students of Elan.”  said Mr. McDermott.  

 

When asked about his 13 years as Elan’s Director of Education and Principal, Frank responded, “It was the best job I ever had!”
