College Preparation at Elan School

Elan School is a closed SAT testing site. Students continue on to two-and four-year colleges, as well as to a variety of vocational programs and schools. More than 300 schools, colleges and universities throughout the country have accepted Elan School graduates during its nearly forty year history. An average of 80% of graduates continue their education. The remainder may enter the work force or join the armed services, but several of these students have long-range goals that include furthering their education.

Student's who are at or near the end of their high school requirements, but still need to remain at Elan may be allowed to take some college courses. Elan has an adjunct professor from the University of New England who offers some college courses here on Elan's campus. Some Elan students are also allowed to attend college courses at one of Maine's technical colleges, or a branch of the University of Maine Systems.

Colleges and Universities that have accepted Elan graduates include: Castleton, Coastal Carolina University, Colby Sawyer, CUNY Staten Island, SUNY Binghamton SUNY Geneseo, SUNY New Paltz, Curry College, Earlham, Hofstra, Lawrence University, St. Anselm, Albertus Magnus, Champlain College, Fisher College, Mount Allison University, New England College, Nichols College, Regis College, Rowan University, Saint Michaels, Salve Regina, Tel Aviv University, and many others.

Carrie Rhoads

Carrie has a BA in Psychology from the University of Maine and an MS in counseling with a focus in School Counseling from the University of Southern Maine. Her past employment includes being a Regional Director for an internship program for both high school and college students. Since 2003 she has been employed at a local public high school as a school counselor. Carrie has been working with Elan students since the fall of 2007. She enjoys getting to know each student as they navigate the college search process together and likes that she can help students with this important life decision.

Carrie assists students in gathering teacher recommendations, filling out college applications, scheduling college visits and determining the right college setting.

 


 

Our School:

  • Elan School accepts adolescents with emotional, behavioral or adjustment problems .
  • Elan School is a co-educational, independent, residential, special-purpose school, serving grades 8 through 12.
  • Students are admitted year round at Elan School; average stay is 24 to 30 months.
  • Classes at Elan School are held during evening hours and are kept small, maximum of 12 students
  • Elan School is a closed SAT site
  • Uses a Life Skills Curriculum that teaches students to permanently change attitudes and life patterns
  • Elan School stresses a work ethic; teaching personal responsibility, honesty, self-control and patience .
  • We have an active athletic program (teams have won several state championships in many sports)
  • Provides intensive group sessions; individual sessions are on an as-needed basis
  • Elan School successfully places 80% of its high school graduates in post-secondary schools.
  • Students at Elan School may be able to earn up to three years of high school credits in a two year period .
  • Annual fees for a 12 month year of $54,960.60
