Student Life at Elan School

Elan's Boarding School for Troubled Teens students' weekday schedules begin at 8 a.m., with showers, cleaning dorm rooms and breakfast. From 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. is a rotation of job functioning, physical education, group and individual sessions, administrative meetings and other events necessary to maintain balanced structure that are a part of the life skills curriculum. Students are learning how to effectively communicate with others and how to develop the skills required for responsible living. From 5:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. students attend their academic classes.

Elan is a demanding place. Students are busy weekdays with group counseling, house functioning and school.  Students attend a staff supervised study hall on Saturdays.

Elan's Boarding School for Troubled Teens recognizes the need for a change of pace.  Students are able to pursue leisure activities on weekends and holidays.  Students sleep until 11:00  a.m. and have brunch at 1:00  p.m.

In season, there is an active schedule of intramural sports that allows our students to enjoy friendly competition while engaging in team building activities.   The goal is to promote healthy competition and fun.

Other recreational opportunities may include  bowling, roller skating, snow-tubing, swimming, white water rafting, and canoeing.  Movies are shown each weekend in cinema style in the student center.  Students who have earned the privilege may attend local agricultural fairs, exhibits, sporting events, trips to dinner, the theater, the movies, art museums and others.

Elan's Boarding School for Troubled Teens students showcase their creative side by participating in an annual campus-wide talent show.   Students may play musical instruments, perform comedy skits or variety acts, sing, read poetry or participate in other performing arts.
