Elan Students Help Tsunami Victims
|
||||||||||
On Thursday, February 3, 2005, Elan School students participated in a "Race for Relief" to raise money for those affected by the tsunami in South Asia. Students and Staff participated in either 3 or 5-mile walk/jog-a-thon on the Elan School campus. All proceeds went to the American Red Cross. Elan students wrote letters to family members and friends for pledges. The response received was both heartwarming and extraordinary. Our goal was to raise $10,000.00 and due to the immense generosity of all, we exceeded our goal by over 50% and ended up raising $16,500.00. Our students were committed to reaching out and helping the victims of this tragedy. Despite the cold temperature, staff and students at Elan School completed over 450 miles; A tremendous effort by all involved. On March 23, 2005, the 122nd Legislature of the State of Maine recognized Elan School's efforts during a ceremony at the state capitol in Augusta. Read the Sun Journal article here.
